May Job Openings, Hires, and Total Separations Change Little
Job Openings
The number of job openings changed little at 81 million on the last business day of May, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. This is little changed from the 8.1 million on the last business day of April and is 4.7 million higher than the lows seen in April 2020.
Hires
The number of hires was little changed at 6.1 million in May. This is little changed from the 6.2 million in April. The number of hires has been little changed since early 2022.
Total Separations
The number of total separations was little changed at 5.9 million in May. This is little changed from the 5.8 million in April. The total separations rate was 3.6 percent, little changed from the 3.5 percent in April and near its lows in the series.
